So the sun is shining and I am seriously being driven towards the bar every night which although sounds bad is actually paying dividends! I was out the other night in Shoreditch at Circus, a weekly night at the club The Last Days of Decadence (www.thelastdaysofdecadence.com) where everyone’s favourite tranny Jodie Harsh spins retro classics, when I bumped into one of my friends who works in the wicked world of PR. After a skinful of Old Fashioned cocktails (expertly made may I add) he told me about a new club that is opening in the heart of Soho which I feel as a blogger I must share with the world!

Next Thursday, 30^th April 2009, one of my favourite clubs in Soho, 24:London, is celebrating the launch of its alter ego ‘Disco:24’ by throwing a huge party at the Kingly Street club. Following an extensive refurbishment, 24:London is taking a step back and proudly introducing Disco:24 onto the London party scene as the new club!

24:London has always been famous for its state of the art visually enhanced walls and with Disco:24 launching, sees an upgrade to the whole system. The club’s surrounding projections can be tailored to project entire landscapes throughout the club or to personalise each booth with individual themes. New jet black curved booths are apparently replacing the current booth arrangement allowing for both smaller and larger groups and new screens made up from faceted mirror clad beads designed to refract light around the club will add to the visual experience.

I am struggling to think, how can they make a club that was by far the most technologically advanced I have ever been into any more high tech? But then again it is 2009!

I have always held 24:London in the highest regard so I hope that the club maintains its edge!!!!

Roll on the 30^th! I guess the club will be able to show us exactly what it’s got then!

Last night at the UPP

So my brain really couldn’t have handled a quiz last night. After reading those celebrity rags all week and having to read tabloids all weekend my brain was maxed out and I really couldn’t have handled any ‘whose breast implant fell out when leaving a West End club last week’ questions! I instead opted for the Iambic bar at The Courtyard near Old Street in the hope of finding some gem of an unsigned band. When I walked in it was like a nostalgic slap in the face, as I walked past the bar area there was some rather erratic man doing laps of the room and shouting ‘f’ the establishment, then I realised he was a ‘poet’! All of a sudden my resentment for my university poets society came back flooding and I very almost erupted in an undergraduate rage! I didn’t!

This made me think that the bands were going to be on par with the poet and I was expecting some ranting academic telling me how messed up our Government is and that we should all stop paying taxes, I was pleasantly surprised!

Café Racer was the name of the midlands based boys and although the room wasn’t packed full of people they definitely filled it with their sound! With the token drunk fan in tow (crazy dancing, general swaying and miming ensued) they played some amazing tracks that reminded me of too many of my favourite bands to mention without sounding too cliché.

Their set included tracks such as South Town Suicide and Paid Up & Leaving which apparently have been with them since they formed. They also treated us to some recently recorded tracks such as Longest Night, 409, As Young Boys Do and Help Me Out (all of which were perfectly mimed by the token drunk fan)! The highlight of the night was their new tracks, which were apparently recorded just a couple of weeks ago in Sheffield, such as Our Demise, Coming After You and my personal favourite Horizon. They really did help me get over my usual tragic Monday at my desk and I managed to catch up with the drummer (Ritchie) and the front man afterwards and (Luke) and they told me that they will be playing at one of Soho’s best know live band venues, Madamme Jojo’s next Monday Night. They also told me that they were going to get lashed and sleep in there van tonight, rock ‘n’ roll all the way!

Next Monday 6^th April @ Madamme Jojo’s, Soho London

So, much to my delight, another Monday bites the dust and strangely enough I get the same sense of elation at 5.30 on a Monday as I do on a Friday! Question now is what to do tonight? Monday’s haven’t been the same since (tragically) Durr @ The End closed its doors for the last time back in Jan, New Oxford Straatta hasn’t been the same since! So for those of us that don’t have to be up at the crack of dawn and can do a spot of early week partying where to go is the new caner conundrum?

If you fancy something a little bit different and you feel that Monday hasn’t quite shot your brain to pieces then why not try Punk tonight? Jonny Awesome and his question box will be heading down to one of Soho’s coolest venues to test that capitals coolerati with his ‘Bucks Fizz Quiz’. Test your knowledge of the past week’s celebrity mishaps and misdemeanors and see who’s more clued up on Beverly Hills than Bromley! The winner, or should we say the most emphatic Heat, New, OK! and Closer magazine reader will walk away with a bottle of Champagne and of course some orange juice as well!

If your brain really can’t handle the pace of a quiz with an intellectual content based on our countries finest celebrity rags then maybe head to the The Courtyard Theatre for some live music. Located just off Old Street roundabout (Bowling Green Walk) Iambic Bar will be kicking the week off with some of the finest band the land has to offer with the likes of Café Racer, matt Saunders and Goldigger taking to the stage. Make sure you arrive before 10.30pm when Café Racer will be playing, I’ve heard a lot about these guys and they are promised for big things, check out there Myspace on http://www.myspace.com/caferacermusic.
